JACOB HASHIMOTO

Jacob Hashimoto was born in Greeley, Colorado in 1973 and graduated from the School of Art Institute in Chicago. He lives and works in Ossining, New York.

Presenting works with abstract appearances that are more an immersive experience than contemplative representations, his inspirations are however multiple. There is a deep interest in video games, virtual environments and cosmology, while remaining deeply rooted in the historical traditions of art, including landscape-based abstraction, modernism and crafts.
Hashimoto’s compositions include drawings, collages and paintings made on paper circles also composed of bamboo. Everything is assembled in suspension thanks to nylon wires. Whether they are monumental installations filling the void of a whole place or wall compositions, they invite, by their delicate floating, the eye of the visitor to walk there.
Thanks to this unique process, the artist creates new landscapes with multiple perspectives, in the form of accumulations of circles where motifs abound, as references to nature, water and plants. Jacob Hashimoto’s works speak of vastness, space, air and infinity, as well as control of nature and human experience.

Since graduating in 1996, Jacob Hashimoto has participated in numerous group exhibitions around the world. He has also exhibited solo in numerous galleries including the Mary Boone Gallery in New York, the Rhona Hoffman Gallery in Chicago, Studio la Città in Verona, the Forsblom Gallery in Helsinki, the Anglim Gilbert Gallery in San Francisco and Makasiini Contemporary in Finland. His work is currently in many public and private collections including LACMA – Los Angeles County Museum of Art (USA), Saastamoinen Foundation (Finland), The Schaufler Foundation (Germany), The California Endowment Foundation (États-Unis), The Microsoft Art Collection (États-Unis), or else la Fondation Carmignac (France).
